Watford FC Selection : Opposing Opinions

Watford FC Selection

Football is of course a game that divides opinions. Even if you’re supporting the same team and watching the same game, different people have opposite opinions. This has been the case at Watford, despite a good start to the season, there has been debate over the Hornets’ best 11. Quique Sanchez Flores has conceded that there are 4 players who deserve to start but he can’t find a place for them at the moment. However even fans can’t agree on a starting XI at the moment, which isn’t good news for my predicted XI next week. The Watford FC Selection debate – Here are some of the debating points:

A Jibe at Jurado?

Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 11.55.11Jurado came in as Quique Sanchez Flores’ recommended signing. The two worked together at Atletico Madrid and thus there was a lot of hype around the experienced midfielder. It’s fair to say he didn’t get off to the best of starts but in his defence it’s a new league and a new club and so he needed a bit of time to get adjusted. Jurado played 2 good games where fans began to see that maybe it just hadn’t clicked up until then. Unfortunately for him an injury meant a month on the side lines and as soon as he came back he was put straight into the 11 against Manchester United. I think Flores knew this was a mistake as the Spaniard came off at half time and Watford fans on Twitter weren’t too impressed with his first half performance. Should he start? From my little survey 97% of Watford fans would rather bench Jurado at this moment in time, harsh? Only time will tell.

Get Guedioura Going

Adlene Guedioura, a player who in my opinion was an integral member of our promotion push. Most Watford fans were happy when he signed this summer, but he is yet to get more than 10 minutes on the pitch in a game. I can’t blame Flores – I wouldn’t have changed a winning team, but he made an exception to this rule for Jurado against Manchester United. Flores is a fantastic manager who has got Watford playing some impressive football and so I can understand those of you who wouldn’t question him. However Guedioura is a player who can create something incredible, he is tireless and I could never doubt his passion. Some people say he might not be of the standard needed to play in the premier league. I personally disagree with that claim but either way we’ll never know if we don’t give him a chance.

Include Ake?

Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 11.54.49Nathan Ake, a youngster from Chelsea who I originally thought would be a back up
at the left back position. However due to Jose Holebas falling out of favour with Quique Sanchez Flores, Nathan Ake was given a chance at left back following Ikechi Anya’s move forward. He seems to be getting better and better every game and this is one thing most supporters seem to agree on. Should Nathan Ake start at left back? Absolutely without a doubt.

No Nyom?

Now we move onto Allan Nyom, who suddenly has come under criticism from Watford fans. To me this is a drastic turn of events, especially given that in an earlier article most people said Nyom was the signing of the summer! It shows how quickly opinions can change in football; I haven’t noticed Nyom at his best recently I have to admit. However I personally wouldn’t drop him from the side just because of a few below par games. Others would disagree as I’ve seen some calls for Juan Carlos Paredes to be given a starting spot at right back.

A Game of Opinions

All of this shows me how incredible the game of football is. It doesn’t matter if you’re a Watford fan, a fan of Barcelona or of Juventus I’m sure we could strike up a conversation and have contrasting opinions about something to do with the beautiful game. In terms of what it means for Watford, for me the implications are huge. I’d struggle to name 1 player at the moment that could say his place in the side is nailed down. Captain Troy Deeney? Well some fans had said a few weeks ago we need a proper number 10 in his position and were considering benching Watford’s record-breaking striker. Odion Ighalo? No one can doubt his goal scoring ability but I believe if in a few games things didn’t go our way, some would call for Obbi Oulare to be given a chance.

Watford fans it’s over to you now. Who would be in your starting 11? Are these contrasting opinions a good thing as it shows our squad depth? Do you envy Quique Sanchez Flores right now? Let me know!
