Preview – Liverpool Vs Arsenal

In this weeks Monday Night Football, Liverpool take on Arsenal in what is easily going to be their most challenging game of the 2015/16 season so far. The Reds will have to overcome a confident Arsenal side at a stadium where they seldom get a good result, as well as the psychological block of Liverpool’s humbling 4-1 defeat to The Gunners last time they made the journey to North London.
The biggest question on the minds of Liverpool fans is how will the club fare without newly appointed captain Jordan Henderson. After the England international left the pitch early during Monday nights victory over Premier League new-boys AFC Bournemouth after picking up an injury.
Henderson’s absence will see a big hole in The Reds engine room, with Henderson known for his incredible work-rate and commitment to the team, Liverpool may not have as much energy in the centre of the park as Arsenal are bound to have. His absence will also demand a performance from vice-captain James Milner, who led Liverpool through the nervous conclusion of their slender 1-0 win over Bournemouth.
Hopefully Mamadou Sakho can return to Liverpool’s defence for this clash, Sakho has long been a stabilising force in Liverpool’s otherwise shaky defence, with both Lovren and Skrtel prone to errors. Liverpool fans will also be hoping to see new signing Roberto Firmino back in the starting lineup after he was completely rested for the AFC Bournemouth game, the £29m man is yet to make any real impact in a Liverpool jersey.

Liverpool Vs Arsenal

I’m not going to sugar-coat this, Liverpool are not favourites for this game, they haven’t looked great in their opening two Premier League games and they have looked vulnerable defensively at times. Though they are still yet to concede a goal in this campaign, I think Arsenal will break the Liverpool back four, and inflict Liverpool’s first defeat of the new season, especially if Alexis Sanchez is allowed to start the game.
I’m predicting an Arsenal win here, but not a demolition like Arsenal’s 4-1 victory last time the two met at the Emirates Stadium, or Liverpool’s shocking 5-1 dismantling of Arsenal in 2014. I think Arsenal will come away with a slender win, by no more than one goal, and both teams will get on the score sheet.

Predicted Score:

Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool

Predicted LFC Lineup:

Mignolet, Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Gomez, Milner, Can, Coutinho, Lallana, Benteke, Ibe
