Leicester City Sack Pearson…Again?

This evening Leicester City have parted ways with Manager Nigel Pearson. The club has issued a miniscule statement on their official site regarding the situation which only serves to point out that the “working relationship between Nigel and the Board is no longer viable.

It is a bizarre move by the club, who enjoyed some genuinely brilliant football in their run-in towards the end of last season. In their final ten games, they won an astonishing seven games, only losing twice helping them to accumulate 22 points out of a possible 30 points. Considering the way that the beginning and middle parts of their season had panned out, the season finally came together for Pearson and his players, and they showed they were infact capable of competing in the Premier League.

It remains to be seen what the cause of Pearson’s position being no longer “viable” – perhaps a mere case of a row at boardroom level regarding the transfer budget? Or, could it be something more deeper-rooted, perhaps something to do with his son’s high-profile racist sex video which saw his son, and some other youth players, sacked from the club? Regardless of what the decision has boiled down to, on the face of it, it seems like a crazy decision.  It doesn’t seem like we will hear much about the situation either way, for the foreseeable future.

In their statement on their official site, the club also served to play down the fact that any more news will be coming out imminently regarding the decision. Stating, “Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh will take charge of first team duties while the Club begins its recruitment of a new manager. There will be no further comment until this process has concluded.” On that note, raising more questions than answers…Who will they look to get in now?

Regardless of the circumstances which have led Leicester City’s owners to make this decision, Nigel Pearson deserves an awful lot of praise for keeping them up in the Premier League – hopefully – the circumstances don’t end up taking away from that praise and respect the fans have for him.
